Spanish Video Localization Case Study: Tustin Legacy

Bringing Tustin’s History to Life in Latin American Spanish

The City of Tustin, California wanted to share its rich history with its Latin American Spanish-speaking community, so they created a video called The Heart of Tustin’s Legacy: History, Honor and Opportunities Within the Navy’s Hangars. It traces the history of one of Southern California’s most iconic landmarks and its transformation into both a community and tourist destination. The city reached out to us to handle the audio post-production process. As their multilingual voice over agency, our goal was to deliver a Spanish version that kept the original’s sense of pride and respect for the site’s history.

A literal translation would have kept the facts and lost the feeling. The project called for careful localization so the story sounded natural to Latin American Spanish speakers. It also needed a cast large enough to match the original’s multiple voices. Our team handled everything from script adaptation to Spanish subtitles. Read how below.

Our Approach:

Adapting the script, not just translating it. Our Latin American Spanish linguists adapted the script for native speakers. They kept the historical details accurate and made sure the storytelling flowed naturally in Spanish.

Casting six voices from a large talent pool. We auditioned a wide pool of Latin American Spanish voice actors and selected one female and five male Spanish voice actors to match the speakers in the original production. Each performance reflects the warmth and authenticity of the English version.

Directed recording and audio post-production. Every session was directed so each actor’s pacing and tone matched the original speaker. Because Spanish typically runs longer than English, we adapted lines during recording to fit the on-screen timing without rushing the delivery. Our engineers then edited each track, adding the voices against the original music and sound effects, and mixed the final audio so the Spanish narration sounds like it was part of the production from the start.

Spanish subtitling and quality assurance. We created synchronized Spanish subtitles, then reviewed the finished video for accuracy, timing, and consistency before delivery.

The Result:

The City of Tustin now has a Spanish-language version of its story that feels like it was originally made for Spanish speakers. The localized video lets the city share its unique history with more of its community, with the same spirit as the original. We have a continuing relationship with the city as a result of our successful collaboration on this project.
